A People in Darkness: When will We See the Light?

Strange things have happened for the past 5 or 6 years in the Philippines. Just before or right after the Christmas vacation, super typhoons have visited the Philippines which have caused so much death and destruction. I hope there will be solutions to this kind of disaster.

Mindanao is the second largest island in the Philippines and it is a place rarely visited by typhoons. The people of this island are unaccustomed to typhoons. Mindanao is also known for its fruit plantations. Some of these plantations were completely destroyed by typhoon “Pablo”.

I am not sure about this but I find it really frightening and strange to see coconut plantations being completely wiped out by the typhoon. When I was an elementary grader and a high school student, I used to go to a province known for its coconut plantations. Here in this province, people ignored storm signals, so I heard or was told. For them, a signal number 3 typhoon was truly such when a number of coconut trees start to fall down. This month, typhoon “Pablo” wiped out the coconut plantations in the provinces it visited. Maybe, just maybe, the Philippines need a new system of public warning on typhoons.

My little angel, Gabby, prayed for the victims --- as well as for their family, relatives and friends --- of typhoon "Pablo" that caused so much death and destruction in Mindanao and some parts of the Visayas.

December 1, 2012 marks the beginning of a journey that will lead to a celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Philippine Revolution of 1896, the great Andres Bonifacio, and it is a great time to be a Filipino.

A Little Angel's Birthday

Happy birthday to my little angel, Gabby! She is truly a darling child. Because of her and my prayers, I no longer have high blood pressure. May Gabby live for 120 years.

(PS: I must admit, though, that I still eat those food that can cause high blood pressure.)

The Holiday and Semestral Breaks End and a New One will Soon Come

The long holiday break and the semestral break are almost over. This coming Monday, office workers and students will go back to work and school. One and a half month later, there will the Christmas break to which the Filipinos look forward.
