Rainy Season

The rainy season in the Philippines begins in June and ends in November. Lots of rain will be pouring down on my country, especially in July and August. It has its benefits but it brings a few problems like flooding. The Filipino people will survive as we usually do. God bless us!

Opening of Classes

By this time, classes have started in all levels in all schools in the Philippines for school-year 2012-2013.....I have decided to re-publish an article on Philippine education which I wrote a long time ago (year 2011, I think). It underwent many revisions, and this 2012 revision has a few footnotes added.

A Summer 2012 Footnote on Philippine Education

There are two developments in Philippine education which are worth noting. The first is R.A. 10157 known as “An Act Institutionalizing the Kindergarten Education into the Basic Education System and Appropriating Funds Therefore,” which is an Act long-overdue but most welcomed. The second concerns the teaching of science. The strategy is to introduce science as a subject in the Grade 3 level, which is the middle part of elementary education in public schools. I believe this is a recipe for disaster in the education of Filipino students insofar as science is concerned.

PS: My little angel was fortunate enough to study science as a subject in her integrated studies class for four years in the nursery and kindergarten levels. (June 1, 2012)
