A Bible Experience

I have just finished reading the Book of Ezekiel, and it was quite a reading. It was a conversation between God and the prophet Ezekiel, and it was quite interesting. God gave Ezekiel a lot of commands, instructions and warnings. This was God talking, and it was a “blow for blow, no holds barred” talk that God gave Ezekiel; although God left a big room full of love and mercy for his people. I found their conversation quite fascinating.

Then, there was this experience. Right now, I am going through the Old Testament part of the Bible. One pattern I noticed, which Bible readers most likely have noticed, is the “disobedience-love-disobedience-then-love” behavior pattern of God’s chosen people. They disobey God; then God punishes them and, later, helps them, and the people love God; later, they disobey him again. I got used to this pattern. So I “kind of know” what will happen when the people disobey God. Twice, I think, after falling asleep while reading or thinking about these parts of the Bible, I woke up with my head reeling. Really, it was spinning, (slightly). I don’t know if my being was expecting the punishment that the people will receive after they have disobeyed God. I haven’t told God about this experience of mine. I was reading the Bible for spiritual enrichment, and not for the “reeling” effect....I’m not so sure if it was due to poor health or my expectation of God’s punishment for the disobedience of his chosen people.

Of all the books of the Old Testament, it is the Book of Isaiah that moves me so deeply. Sometimes, I cry when I read the verses in the Book of Isaiah. Sometimes, tears will form in my eyes, and I have to stop reading. Sometimes, too, I get so positively emotional or imaginative about the verses I’m reading that I just dwell on them. Really, the Book of Isaiah moves my spirit and being --- like a spiritual earthquake, a sudden eruption of emotions, an unrelenting hurricane force of meditation or reflection, a tsunami of positive thoughts. I never get tired of the verses in the Book of Isaiah, especially the Messianic verses. It is real love, God’s love. And here’s something you might want to hear: I will never know why God loves us. We are the object of His divine affection, in spite of our sins and weaknesses. Here’s another one: the Jews or Israelites are the object of God’s divine affection, in spite of the fact that they crucified Christ. We will never know why as we live on earth; we can only know the reason when we meet Him in eternity.

If you are interested in knowing Christ, in knowing God, start by reading the Gospels. Or you can begin with the Epistles of Paul. You will find a lot of information about God in these sections of the Bible. A lot of the verses are quite inspiring or uplifting. They can take away your tiredness, worry, fear and anger and your sins; and they give you hope, faith and love. Try memorizing the verses you like. Then, later, try to memorize the verses you find interesting or challenging for you. Then, much later, try to memorize the verses that you think are a bit disagreeable for you or a little bit difficult to accept. Just memorize the short verses. And keep on memorizing the same verses. Let God’s word dwell in your hearts.

Update on Hearts Philippines

Checking for mistakes on and editing of Bible verses and new items on the Home Extension section is on-going. A few mistakes have been corrected; they are “minor” mistakes which are irritating and quite difficult for someone who has no background and experience on editing and proof-reading. Even though I try to really edit and proof-read what I’m posting or have posted online, I sometimes end up reading what were inside my mind: the published materials in their correct form. I truly enjoy working with my Little Angel Gabby, but occasionally, I wish Gabby and I have two persons assisting us in doing the work for our websites.
