Hebrews 11:1
Hebrews 11:1

“Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, ’Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown.’ When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ’Silence! Be still.’ Suddenly, the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, ’Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’” (Mark 4:38-40 / NLT)

“Have faith in God. I assure you that whoever tells this hill to get up and throw itself in the sea and does not doubt it in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.” (Mark 11:22-23 / TEV)

“If you have faith as big as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ’Pull yourself up by the roots and plant yourself in the sea!’ and it would obey you.” (Luke 17:6 / TEV)

“One of the twelve disciples, Thomas, was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, ’We have seen the Lord!’ But he replied, ’I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands…. Eight days later, the disciples were together again…the doors were locked; but suddenly …Jesus was standing among them. Peace be with you,’ he said. Then he said to Thomas, ’Put your finger here, and look at my hands’…. ’My Lord and My God!’ Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, ’You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.’” (John 20:24-29 / NLT)

“If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from death, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10 / TEV)

“…for we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7 / NET)

“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. All who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ….” (Galatians 3:26-27 / NLT)

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” (Ephesians 2:8 / NLT)

“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ…I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.” (Philippians 1:27 / NLT)

“To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval.” (Hebrews 11:1-2 / TEV)

“It is by faith that we understand that the universe was created by God’s word…. It was faith that kept Enoch from dying. Instead, he was taken up to God…. It was faith that made Noah hear God’s warnings about things in the future that he could not see. He obeyed God and built a boat in which he and his family were saved. As a result, the world was condemned….” (Hebrews 11:3, 5 and 7 / TEV)

“It was by faith that made Abraham obey when God called him to go out to a country which God had promised to give him…. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who received the same promise….” (Hebrews 11:8-9 / TEV)

“It was faith that made Abraham able to become a father, even though he was too old and Sarah herself could not have children…. Though Abraham was practically dead, from this one man came as many descendants as there are stars in the sky…. It was in faith that all these persons died. They did not receive the things God had promised, but from a long way off they saw them and welcomed, and admitted openly that they were foreigners and refugees on earth…. Instead, it was a better country they longed for, the heavenly country. And so God is not ashamed for them to call him their God….” (Hebrews 11:11-13 and 15-16 / TEV)

“It was faith that made Abraham offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice when God put Abraham to the test…. Abraham reckoned that God was able to raise Isaac from the death – and, so to speak, Abraham did receive Isaac back from death.” (Hebrews 11:17 and 19 / TEV)

“It was faith that made Isaac promise blessings for the future to Jacob and Esau. It was faith that made Jacob bless each of the sons of Joseph just before he died…. It was faith that made Joseph…speak of the departure of the Israelites from Egypt…. It was faith that made the parents of Moses hide him for three months after he was born…. and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s order.” (Hebrews 11:20-23 / TEV)

“It was faith that made Moses…refuse to be called son of the king’s daughter. He preferred to suffer with God’s people…. It was faith that made Moses leave Egypt without being afraid of the king’s anger…. It was faith that made him establish the Passover…, so that the Angel of Death would not kill the first-born son of the Israelites (Hebrews 11:24-25 and 27-28 / TEV)

“It was faith that made the Israelites able to cross the Red Sea as if on dry land…. It was faith that made the walls of Jericho fall down after the Israelites marched around them for seven days…. Should I go on? There isn’t enough time to speak of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets…. They did what is right and received what God had promised….” (Hebrews 11:29-30 and 32-33 / TEV)

“What a record all of these have won by their faith! Yet they did not receive what God had promised because God decided on an even better plan for us. His purpose was that only in company with us would they be made perfect.” (Hebrews 11:39-40 / TEV)

“But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind.” (James 1:5-6 / NET)

“…faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead….Show me your faith without deeds and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” (James 2:17-18 / NIV App)

“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:8-9 / NIV App)

2 Corinthians 5:7
